In Feb. 2023, I shattered my ankle and had 3 surgeries. My orthopedic surgeon sent me to a typical PT facility for therapy. The therapists at this facility had me doing very basic moves all the while attending to at least 3 other patients at the same time. I saw no improvement in my range of motion. I had 2 courses of treatment at 12 sessions each. I did essentially the same exercises each time I attended a session. While I was told that I was improving, no objective measurements were taken. All I got was "it looks better today." All this despite me saying that I wasn't seeing any change myself.
A friend told me about Motion RX. While this provider does not take health insurance, the doctors aren't bound by insurance limitations. Dr. Justin Ma took care of me. One on one care. As I'm trying to move about, he's observing me and watching how my movement is limited. Then, he decides now to address that specific limitation. The treatment method was very specific to me, not some pre-decided insurance guidelines. We took actual range of motion measurements to determine whether my range of motion was indeed improving. And, it did. I'm not back to pre-accident status and probably will never be due to the magnitude of the injury. But, I am able to walk better, I've returned to the gym doing most lifts that I did prior to my injury, and moving about better in general.
The plus of using this facility is the care being given specifically for your individual injury as opposed to vague and general insurance guidelines. Dr. Ma made an effort to lean my limitations and design a plan to help improve my condition. After each session, he emailed the updated plan to me to continue outside of his supervision.
I just wish that I had found Dr. Ma sooner.

I went to Motion Rx for an injured shoulder that had been bothering me off and on for about 2 years. I originally went to get the dry needling treatment that they advertised online. I first met with Peter at the Baymeadows office in Jacksonville, FL, who did different tests on my shoulder and told me I didn't need the dry needling because my shoulder wasn't hurting me enough and all I needed was exercise for it. I reluctantly agreed to it, even though I shouldn't have because I wanted to try the dry needling. So, we skipped the dry needling and he proceeded to coach me through the exercises. Next came the bill: $969, and I had already paid a fee of $34 when I made the appointment. So the total came to $1000 for 4 visits/month to basically be coached by someone about how to do the exercises. I'd get 3 more visits after this and if I wanted to continue, it would be another $969/month. The 2nd time I went, I met with Paul, who was very helpful and went through the exercises with me and arranged for me to get the dry needling, which was my primary reason for going to Motion Rx in the first place. He also showed me different payment plans that Peter never did. I decided not to try any of the other plans because I was already sick that I had spent $1000 and even missed out on a session of the dry needling because I was told I didn't need it. Anyway, this place has helped many people, I'm sure. But in my opinion, it's very overpriced unless you just want to pay $1000 a month for a personal trainer. That's more than my house payment
